INFORMATION the WUF GATHERS AND TRACKS

The WUF gathers two types of information about users:

  • Information that users provide through optional, voluntary submissions. These are voluntary submissions include, but are not limited to: declaration signup, electronic newsletters, send the website link to a friend, or participate in our Yahoo Discussion Group.

  • Information the WUF gathers through tracking information derived mainly by tallying page views throughout our site. This information allows us to better tailor our content to readers' needs and to better understand the demographics of our audience. Because the WUF derives its revenue mainly from donated book sales and donations, providing such aggregated demographic data is essential to the Foundation. Under no circumstances does the WUF divulge any information about an individual user to a third party.

We gather information in the following processes:

Optional Voluntary Information

We offer the following free services, which require some type of voluntary submission of personal information by users:

1. Signing the declaration:  When signing the Worldwide Declaration of Intent, the user is required to supply a name only, and no other contact information. An email address and location are optional.

2. Electronic newsletters policy:  We offer a free electronic newsletter to users. The WUF gathers the email addresses of users who voluntarily subscribe. Users may remove themselves from this mailing list by following the link provided in every newsletter that points users to the subscription management page. Users can also subscribe to the newsletters at the time of signing the declaration.

3. Web log/Forums policy:  This site links to a read only web log and also to a Yahoo Discussion Group, which has its own privacy policy. Users of the Yahoo site's Discussion Group must register separately for this service (free of charge) in order to post messages; although they needn't register to visit and read the messages. Please be advised that information posted in these venues becomes public knowledge.

4. "E-mail this to a friend" policy:  Our site users can choose to electronically forward a link to our site to someone else by clicking "e-mail this to a friend". The user must provide their email address, as well as that of the recipient. This information is used only in the case of transmission errors and, of course, to let the recipient know who sent the email. The information is not used for any other purpose.

Children

Because we care about the safety and privacy of children online, we comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA).  COPPA and its accompanying FTC regulation establish United States federal law that protects the privacy of children using the Internet. We do not knowingly contact or collect personal information from children under 13. Our site is not intended to solicit information of any kind from children under 13, and we have designed our site to block our knowing acceptance of information from children under 13 whenever age-related information is requested.

It is possible that by fraud or deception we may receive information pertaining to children under 13. If we are notified of this, as soon as we verify the notification, we will immediately obtain parental consent or otherwise delete the information from our servers. If you want to notify us of our receipt of information by children under 13, please do so by e-mailing us at: contact@wwunited.org

Usage tracking

As with almost any website, the WUF uses software to analyze our website logs to constantly improve the value of our website. We use an external service to provide reporting to us about browser accesses to our site. This reporting includes page views, unique views, unique visitors, repeat visitors, frequency of visits, and peak-volume traffic periods. We do not use this service to gather, request, record, require, collect or track any Internet users' personally identifiable information.

Cookies

At times we may employ the use of "cookies." A cookie is a small text file that our Web server places on a user’s computer hard drive to be a unique identifier. The cookie itself does not contain Personal Information, but will enable us to relate your use of this site to information that you have specifically and knowingly provided. The only personal information a cookie can contain is information you supply yourself. A cookie can't read data off your hard disk or read cookie files created by other sites. The WUF uses cookies to track user traffic usage patterns and deliver customized content to users (as described above). Depending on the application, our cookies may or may not have an expiration date.
You can refuse cookies by turning them off in your browser. If you've set your browser to warn you before accepting cookies, you will receive the warning message with each cookie. You do not need to have cookies turned on to use this site.

Correct/Update Personal Information

The WUF allows you to change or modify your personal information by sending an email to the site administrator. contact@wwunited.org

Customer Information & Credit Card Transactions

Limited information is supplied to The WUF in the event of a donation given through PayPal.com. This includes only your name and verified or unverified address.

USE OF INFORMATION

The WUF uses any information voluntarily given by our users to enhance their experience on our site, whether to provide interactive or personalized elements on the site, or to better prepare future content based on the interests of our users.

As stated above, we use information that users voluntarily provide in order to send out electronic newsletters and messages, and to enable users to participate in the forum. We send out newsletters to subscribers on a regular schedule (depending on the newsletter), and occasionally send out special messages from our Foundation when we think subscribers might be particularly interested in something we are doing. However, users may opt out of or opt in to these sample email messages at any time. (See Opt In/Out policy, below.) The WUF never shares mailing lists with any third parties, including sponsors or partners.

When we use tracking information to determine which areas of our sites users like and don't like based on traffic to those areas, we do not track what individual users read, but rather how well each page performs overall. This helps us continue to build a better site for you. We track search terms entered in Search function as one of many measures of what interests our users. But we don't track which terms a particular user enters.

The WUF creates aggregate reports on user demographics and traffic patterns for the Foundation directors. This allows the Foundation board to make decisions more effectively.

SHARING OF THE INFORMATION

The WUF uses the above-described information to tailor our content to suit your needs and to better understand our audience's demographics. We will not disclose any information about any individual user with any third party, except to comply with applicable law or valid legal process or to protect the personal safety of our users or the public.

LINKS TO OTHER SITES

We offer links to other Web sites. Please note: When you click on links to other Web sites, we encourage you to read their privacy policies. Their standards may differ from ours, and are the responsibility of their respective owners.

OPT IN-OUT POLICY

We give users options wherever necessary and practical. Such choices include:

  • Emailing to request your name and information to be removed from the online declaration.

  • Opting not to register to receive our electronic newsletters.

  • Opting not to participate in certain interactive areas, which completely alleviates the need to gather any personally identifiable information from our users.

YOUR CONSENT

By using this site, you consent to the collection and use of this information by The Worldwide United Foundation (the WUF). If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on this page so that you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances we disclose it.

If you have any additional questions or concerns about our privacy policy, they may be directed to: info@wwunited.org
